Barbara Ziff
Barbara has studied and created art since she was a child growing up in Oklahoma. At age 8, she was thrilled when one of her paintings was chosen for a cultural exchange with the USSR. Art has been an important part of her life ever since. She graduated from Southern Methodist University and has lived in Chapel Hill for 30 years.
Barbara is a member of the Orange County Art Guild and the Durham Art Guild. Her work has been exhibited in group and solo shows in North Carolina and Connecticut. She is inspired by the rural landscapes of North Carolina, her travels to Turkey and the Southwest, Tuscany, and her unique inner sensibility.
“I am interested in using color to express the essence of my subject rather that trying to make my pictures look completely realistic. I like to push colorif I see a rock with a bluish tinge, I will paint it intensely blue. The brilliant color I use expresses the emotional involvement I feel with my subject.”
